There are various sailing regatas of class Optimist, Laser 4.7, cadet and 420, with participations of european countries.
Today was the 1st day of the regatas after the practice runs of yesterday, and with a good north-east facing winds, all the regatas were confirmed. Thanks to the help of Txema Oliver a sailing photographer and his precious advice, and thanks to Jaime Verd Miro for allowing me get into the circuit whilst helping him out, it is a great new challenge, i am enjoying my first shots on the Security RIB, 7 hours of shots, more to come but those are the first trials on sports, sailing and regata shots of my life. Using my classical canon 450D and a 70-300 vivitar which showed a little slow on focusing, i noticed the interest of having USM L series Lenses as the 3 Professionals had (but hey they can afford it :D ).

I am looking forward to the Day 2 and 3 of those regatas, spending more time on sea, learning more, getting my position right, my shots right, getting more of a feeling for those captured instants and for the few shots i might succeed in taking.

Day 2
Day 2 Was probably the best day of all, wind finally making the competition faster, and i think i somehow found my mark within the shots i enjoyed taking. Some more action, closer crops and enjoying the discovery of sports photography. I really now notice the difference between a pro lense L serie from canon like the 70-200 IS USM or 100-400 IS USM and the ones we were using as “non pro”, but nontheless i am quite proud of what i could achieve with a basic tele lense.
Day 3 was more focused on close-ups of the children on the Optimist series, and a few nice interesting shots around the block, a no-wind situation during 3 hours allowed us to play around looking at young 420 sailing competitors having a chat, lying on their boats. Day 3 shots to come later on.

This is the very first “REAL” concert… and not the least, a spanish band that i quite like.

So here i go, with my friend Amandine aka little penguin, we head out for the stadium of Son Moix where i was sure the event was happening… but it’s not there, it’s on the parking of the stadium… i thought, hmm, spain is weird, it’s going to be small, but hey i was totally wrong, so never have expectations, because the concert was just wicked, we were somewhat 7000 people attending, yes yes on the parking of the stadium can you believe it ?

So those are my very very first concert pictures, using the 50mm F 1.4 and the 18-55 kit lense. some i had averaged to a 4 or 5 over lightroom have been downgraded to 2, amazing how our value of quality goes down the more we shoot… it’s great. so don’t hesitate, tell me what you think :)

This year Sam and I decided to go there to enjoy a fun evening, the 2 of us, this was actually to this day the last event and party evening i went to with my daughter before she left the island to live in france. It has a weird taste to write that today after already over 2 months, but the smile of her face and the fun we had on the event was the best to remember :)

Can we tell she’s somehow a natural born diver without really admitting it ? i think so yes, just look at that OK sign … it’s a perfect pose, and that’s her usual way to tell me she’s good, it’s just wicked.

First try with the 18-55 of the kit, first time on sport or speedy shots to see what could come out of them, was fun, the shots are far from great but i enjoyed the day and felt like sharing… it’s a blog and i’m not just putting the perfect stuff up, we all learn from criticism and comments, or simply would it be that i enjoy putting some stuff up ?

I was in the center this afternoon with clive helping me out on a little clearing up, then after a nice little mop-up we looked outside, lovely light, incredible sunset… had to get the camera and shoot a little… can’t not shoot, it’s like diving… it’s part of my life.

The color of the sky, the shape of the clouds, i think it just hit me that i had to get that on the screen, a perfect nice screensaver for the mallorca sunrises.

Nature at it’s best, in the morning, and with the day gone by, simply a little thank you Universe for the sake of nature giving us the chance to nurture ourselves from this beautiful scene.
