USS Warship in Port & EsBaluard Museum area

Last night i noticed that for the 1st time in 4 years here in mallorca, the USS Roosevelt aircraft carrier which usually is outside the harbour of Palma… was Inside… couldn’t believe it, it’s just massive, a huge vessel and curosity pushed me to go and take a few shots. I wanted to climb up the wall and take a few very close shots, but the old wall ladder which was against the dique del oeste has been cut down a long time ago… and my climbing skills with a camera on the side are somewhat limited… so i had to go without those shots.For information to have a little idea of the size of the ship… on the landscape shots where you can see some little rocks in the center/lower part of the photo… the wall by those rocks is approx 1.70m high… that might just show you how huge that monster is.

None of the climbing lark took my motivation away, the stroll on the paseo maritimo took me to Es Baluard, the modern art museum of palma, a very nice architectural building with archeological insets from the old times, a few nice shots of the area trying to get my composition right and still working on my Zone System metering techniques.

Mallorca, Dique Del Oeste… just a few shots

Well, another ride, another night, another day… I felt like going shooting out a little but didn’t know where, fancied changing a little bit from cathedral area, pasaje Born and the various usual Palma spots i have been shooting in. Therefore decided to go along to Santa Catalina area… with the van you can imagine how to park a Renault Trafic 9 seater in the side streets… its inches between the cars to get by… well anyhow that was a no go, after 20mn looking or a parking space even though i had been asking the universe very kindly… it just didn’t happen.

I then decided that I could try the dique del oeste, didn’t want to move to Palma Nova after having gone to palma… too far, tired, and getting out of the mood for them.

A few shots, some i like, others i’m not so sure, but i’ll just bulk the whole lot and go ahead, shoot off the comments.

Rainy night in Palma…

Well it was a rainy night, felt like doing nothing at home and then came the storm, lightning and all the wicked things that we could do with a camera. I don’t have a good tripod, only a small one which is fine for a Point & Shoot so i decided to go for a walk in the streets of Palma and see what i could figure out to shoot.

Obviously the rain got rid of many many people, empty streets, no crowds, but anyhow it was fun to try the settings and see what i could do.Good point to remember… make a cover for the camera, i should try to make myself a “sleeve” in which i could put the camera to protect it from the rain and the drops, it isn’t tropicalized and I really don’t know how it reacts. At the end of the shot it didn’t fire up anymore… but i am recharging the batteries to give it a check as i haven’t charged them since the San Sebastian competition… that’s almost 1000 pictures ago.

Mallorca – Night shots in january

Tonight i went out in the city, simply stopping where i felt like having a break, shooting at arm length, no tripod yet so it’s hard work on getting proper sharp shots.

A little run in the airport to finish off the fun of the shooting, colors, and shapes, all this was just great fun to shoot.

To finish off you will see 3 musketeers chasing the bandits in the street, armed with their handbags ready to fly, remembering the famous scene of crocodile dundee with the Tomato Soup is just a wonderful moment.

Paris – Le louvre by night

Paris.. ahh paris, une soirée avec pui-ching pour une petite session de shooting photo de nuit. Tentative sur un trépied, recherche de mes paramètres… et test de son objectif Canon 24-70 f2.8.

Le louvre est un monument, la pyramide est une figure qui ressort dans la pénombre, mais la première session ne donne pas les résultats escomptés, j’ai tout de même sorti quelques photos sympa et histoire de remplir le blog petit à petit en voici à présent.

Barcelona – ship loading time

Barcelona, waiting in the harbour, i simply wanted to take this shot of the ship loading it’s content before leaving for the open seas. After thoughts… it seems like the scene is confused due to a very wide depth of field… next time close it down massively and focus on a segment of the ship.. or get a 70-200 f2.8
